The Samaritans

Samaritans is a charity that provides completely confidential emotional support 24 hours a day by phone, email, face to face, text and letter. Samaritans primarily provides emotional support to people in distress and at risk of dying by suicide. Samaritans believe that being listened to in confidence, without fear of being judged, can alleviate feelings of distress, including those which may lead to suicide.

There are almost 2,000 Samaritans volunteers in Ireland. There are 20 Samaritans branches across the island of Ireland and one 'festival' branch which attends festival, events and gathering in Ireland to offer support on-site.

Samaritans also work in schools, prisons and the workplace throughout Ireland.

Fr. Sean McGrath

Fr. Sean Mcgrath has dedicated himself to undertaking missionary work in the slums of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Through the work of Fr. Sean and others like him, it is hoped that one day we can alleviate the suffering and injustice that has become so apparent in Brazils cities.

Fr. Sean is currently undertaking to build a new community centre in the shanty town where he is based on the north side of the city. This centre will be able to focus on the needs of the community and as such the services provided will be those the community members actually require. Fr. Sean aims to increase the standard of living of the impoverished masses living in these slums and ultimately break down the barriers preventing equality.
